Leonard Slatkin kicks off his upcoming 75th birthday celebration with a performance at the Aspen Music Festival—where he first studied conducting under Walter Susskind in 1964—this Sunday, July 21, at 4 p.m. in the Benedict Music Tent. The program features Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Seong-Jin Cho and Elgar’s “Enigma” Variations.
Next week, he will conduct the New York Philharmonic in two performances at the Bravo! Vail Music Festival—an all-Cole Porter concert on Tuesday, July 23, at 6 p.m., as well as a classical program featuring Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 performed by Yefim Bronfman and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 on Wednesday, July 24, at 6 p.m.
On August 7th at 8 p.m., Slatkin will lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with soloist Denis Matsuev and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade at the Ravinia Festival.
