This week, Leonard leads the New York Philharmonic, marking his first appearance in David Geffen Hall. His relationship with the institution, however, spans more than 50 years. He first conducted the orchestra in 1974, and the relationship has flourished in the decades since. A highlight in his milestone 80th birthday season, the three-concert engagement features Cindy McTee’s Double Play, John Corigliano’s Triathlon with saxophone soloist Timothy McAllister, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.
