The Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria has announced the three-year appointment of Leonard Slatkin as Principal Guest Conductor. Slatkin made his debut with the orchestra this past April. “It was a truly memorable experience to make music with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria,” Slatkin stated. “This is a fantastic ensemble, responsive at every turn and full of life in rehearsals and the concert. The musicians have a true desire to make music at the highest possible level. Much of the credit goes to Maestro Chichon and the work he has done to develop the ensemble. I am excited about these next three seasons of collaboration as Principal Guest Conductor.” Slatkin will conduct one program in the 2022-23 season. The concert on October 21st will feature Circuits by Cindy McTee, Grieg’s Piano Concerto with soloist Olga Kern, and Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz.
