Leonard Slatkin will conduct Samuel Barber’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, Vanessa, considered by many to be one of the most important American operas of the twentieth century. The production, opening July 30th at Santa Fe Opera, stars soprano Erin Wall as the title character, a woman left heartbroken by the lover who abandoned her. Obsessively awaiting the return of the married man with whom she had an affair 20 years earlier, the aging but still beautiful aristocrat Vanessa lives in a world of secrets, deception, and alternate realities. When a stranger, played by tenor Zach Borichevsky, arrives at the door, a new chapter begins.
